Warm in the apartment?

When it’s at its hottest outside, it can be difficult to lower the temperature in the apartment. But there are a few things you can do to make it a bit cooler. Here are some refreshing tips for the apartment.

Keep the sun out
Lower your blinds and awnings. Also, keep the windows closed when it’s hottest during the day.

Hang up sheets
If you don’t have blinds, you can hang up light sheets to block out the sun.

Create a draft
Open two windows at opposite ends of the apartment in the morning or evening when it’s cooler. Remember to close them before it gets warmer outside.

Moisten a sheet
Hang a moistened sheet in front of an open window for cooler air.

Fix fans
If you have a tabletop fan, place it on the floor to blow up cooler air.

Chill with ice
You can also place a bowl of ice in front of the fan so the air becomes cooler.

Avoid heat sources
Avoid using items that generate heat, such as stoves, ovens, or electrical devices. Make a salad, heat food in the microwave, and turn off the TV and computer.

Take a cold shower
Cool down with a cold shower and avoid hot water and steam.

Tips for cooling yourself down:

  • Rinse your wrists with cold water.
  • Fill a footbath with cold water and dip your toes in it.
  • Place pillowcases and duvets in the freezer.
  • Wear airy clothes, preferably garments made of linen.
  • If you want to train or take a walk, do it in the morning or late in the evening, when it’s cooler outside.
  • Don’t forget to drink plenty of water or electrolytes.
