Since its establishment in 1955, KFAB is today the largest landlord in Katrineholm with over 1,800 apartments and premises in about 100 properties. As a municipal housing company, we are naturally part of the journey the municipality is making and working towards the vision of 40,000 inhabitants and 4,000 new homes by 2030.
The 1950s
KFAB was founded in ’55 and KFAB constructed its very first residential property in the north.
The 1960s
The Million Program resulted in the large residential areas in northern and western Katrineholm.
The 1970s
The oil crisis led to improved renovations in heating plants and ventilation systems. New building projects took off, especially in Nävertorp. KFAB also took over foundations with large apartment stocks in the rural areas of Valla and Sköldinge.
The 1980s
Interest subsidies for small house construction decreased the demand for apartments. KFAB built Katrineholm’s new Kulturhus and also took over residential properties from the municipality.
The 1990s
The early 90s were characterized by downsizing of large industries, a declining population, and an increased number of vacant apartments. In the later part of the decade, KFAB broke ground for Katrineholm’s first senior housing which received great interest.
The 2000s
A housing shortage has caused construction to pick up again. Environmental issues are in focus, and reducing energy consumption, optimizing, and automating property operations are high on KFAB’s agenda. In 2001, it was decided that KFAB would take over all properties from the municipality, including preschools, schools, service houses, and nursing homes.
