Katrineholm Real Estate AB (KFAB) is Katrineholm’s largest landlord. We actively work with environmental issues and take significant responsibility when decisions are made that impact the environment. At KFAB, we believe that sustainability must be present at every stage, which is why we work with environmental and quality issues both internally and externally. We address both large and small environmental issues to minimize the negative consequences for the environment. Below is a description of both short- and long-term projects we are working on.
From mercury to LED
We continuously replace old mercury lamps with LED lights. The new LED lamps have lower energy consumption and a longer lifespan, which helps save both the environment and resources.
Individual metering and billing (IMD)
To reduce total electricity consumption, we measure individual consumption of household electricity and/or hot and cold water, as many other housing companies do around Sweden. Through IMD, our tenants can influence both their costs and contribute to a better environment. In our older stock, this measurement is being gradually implemented.
Waste management
We work intensively with waste management in our residential areas. We constantly try to improve in our waste rooms and regularly place out containers where larger combustible materials can also be disposed of. We have texts in different languages and clear pictograms on how to sort waste, so everyone can make a contribution to the environment.
New production
Our new construction of rental apartments and various municipal service buildings contributes to the development of the municipality. It provides more housing opportunities and increases municipal services. To reduce the environmental impact that occurs in the production process during the manufacturing of building materials, we use Byggvarubedömningen. Byggvarubedömningen ensures that the materials we use in the property are non-toxic. We also use Miljöbyggnad, which is a Swedish environmental certification that provides energy-efficient buildings and good environments to live and work in.
Company cars and electric service bikes
Today, we have a completely fossil-free vehicle fleet, which we are incredibly proud of. We have eighteen electric cars and six gas cars. Our diesel cars, which we will gradually phase out, refuel with HVO-100, which is fossil-free. In addition, we also have four service bicycles, two of which are electric bikes. In this way, we contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our employees appreciate the convenience of taking a bike for shorter assignments.
